The Coos Bay Swing Span bridge has now been successfully opened to rail traffic. The completion of this repair project has re-established connectivity from the North Spit to Coos Bay. Maintaining rail connectivity is vital to support movement of trade, help shippers remain competitive, support jobs along the line, and foster future business opportunities.
The Coos Bay Rail Line traverses 121 bridges between the interchange in Eugene and end of line in Coquille. Timber bridges make up the multitude of these bridge structures, many of which cross waterways. These bridges require constant maintenance and upgrades in order to ensure good working order. The work for this Project includes the repair and/or rehabilitation to over thirty timber bridge structures along the Coos Bay Rail Line (CBRL), located in western Lane, western Douglas, and Coos Counties.
This summer (2018) , Port staff will be working to repair the launch ramp docks, which are used for temporary dockage at the Charleston Marina launch ramp. The launch ramp is used exclusively by recreational fishermen and boaters.
The Oregon International Port of Coos Bay (OIPCB) has completed dredging operations at the Port of Garibaldi, removing 32,000 cubic yards of dredge material from the boat launch and marina utilizing the State of Oregon owned dredge “THE LAURA”.
The Port of Coos Bay has partnered with the Port of Alsea to complete dredging for the Port of Alsea marina which is used extensively by recreational users all year round.
