Coos Bay Swing Span Bridge Reopens to Rail Traffic

Oregon International Port of Coos Bay (Port) reopens the Coos Bay Swing Span Bridge after a year of closure due to structural failure. Rail traffic will commence immediately. The Coos Bay Swing Span bridge has now been successfully opened to rail traffic.  The bridge will undergo testing and adjustments over the next several days.  The first order of business will be to move about 25 rail cars that are currently in Coos Bay to the north side of the bridge on Friday April 26th and normal rail service will be restored to shippers south of the bridge early next week.

The Charleston community invites seafood lovers to celebrate fresh and delicious Coos Bay oysters at the 14th annual Charleston “Ahh Shucks!” Oyster Feed on Saturday, April 27th. The celebration starts at noon and goes until 4 p.m. at the Oregon Institute of Marine Biology (OIMB) Dining Hall, located at 63466 Boat Basin Road in Charleston. This yearly celebration runs in conjunction with Oregon Oyster Week and is hosted by the Charleston Community Enhancement Corporation.

The Oregon International Port of Coos Bay (Port) is pleased to announce the award of a $20 million Better Utilizing Investments to Leverage Development (BUILD) grant to support rehabilitation of 15 bridge structures along the Coos Bay Rail Line. The Coos Bay Rail Line, owned and operated by the Port, is a 134-mile short line railroad which runs throughout Coos, Douglas, and Lane Counties supporting the regional and state economy.

Port Starts Operations of the Coos Bay Rail Line

The Oregon International Port of Coos Bay (Port) announces that its subsidiary, Coos Bay Rail Line, Inc. (CBRL) will start train operations on the Port owned rail line effective November 1, 2018. The Port was notified by the current third-party operator in December of 2017 of its intention to divest their relationship with the Port.  To date the Port has purchased locomotives along with other materials valued at $4 million. In addition, the Port has 15 new staff members that will manage the operations on a day to day basis.

New rail spur links Willamette Valley timber companies to export markets

A new rail spur is now handling inbound freight in North Bend thanks to the collaborative efforts of a tribal entity, a public agency and a private business. The Coquille Economic Development Corporation (CEDCO) and the Oregon International Port of Coos Bay announced the completion of a rail spur to the K2 Exports yard on CEDCO’s Ko-Kwel Wharf property. The spur allows K2 Exports to bring logs by rail directly to its export terminal on the wharf.

OIPCB receives Travel Oregon Award for Infrastructure Development in the Charleston Marina RV Park

The Oregon International Port of Coos Bay (OIPCB) has successfully applied for and received a $12,750 grant from Travel Oregon to replace picnic tables in the Charleston Marina RV Park. OIPCB applied through Travel Oregon’s competitive grants program and was one of 29 recipients to receive a grant award. Travel Oregon awarded a total of $400,000 for local tourism projects throughout the state.
