OIPCB Launches Scholarship and Community Giving Program

Coos Bay, OR - The Port of Coos Bay will award two $500 scholarships to local graduating seniors who are pursuing educational advancement at an Oregon trade school, community college, or university.  The Port is dedicated to supporting the growth and development of Oregon’s South Coast regional economy by encouraging the workforce of tomorrow. Applicants must live or attend school within the Port district and have shown success in the pursuit of their goals.

All eligible students are encouraged to apply, though special consideration will be given to those seeking educational advancement in trades or skills related to the maritime, rail, or trade and logistics industries. Selection criteria may include but are not limited to, academic achievement, involvement in extra-curricular activities, and expectations for future success in the academic setting.

The Port has also developed a new community giving and donation process. Requests for donations and event sponsorships will be received on a rolling basis, then reviewed and awarded quarterly. Preference will be giving to organizations with a mission or vision that aligns with the Port’s strategic goals and guiding principles. Funding requests must impact organizations, projects, or events within the Port district.

“A healthy economy requires investment in the next generation and community,” says John Burns, Port CEO. “These programs allow us to support the economic future and vitality of the community we live and work in.”
