The purpose of the wetland mitigation of East Bay is to fulfill the requirements of the Transpacific Parkway Realignment Project completed in 2012. In 2005, the Port started the TransPacific Railway realignment project for Coos Bay Rail Link, which is successfully complete now. Following its completion, the Port started construction on a new wetland mitigation site on the East side of Port Property as a requirement due to impacted wetlands from the project. After years of monitoring the wetland, willow cuttings were planted last April but unfortunately did not root or grow. Port staff along with the Shutter Creek Crew has replanted these willows with a new innovative planting tools created by the Port's maintenance staff.
