Deputy Executive Director
Port of Coos Bay Harbormaster
Michael F. Gaul
Mike
Gaul holds the combined position of Deputy Executive Director and Port
of Coos Bay Harbormaster, and is uniquely qualified to fill both
assignments. Mike went to work for the Port in 1989, following a
22-year career in the United States Coast Guard. He retired from the
Coast Guard as a Master Chief Boatswains Mate, and his last duty
assignment was Officer in Charge of the Charleston Lifeboat Station.

maritime industry is well suited for his job responsibilities with
the Port.
As Deputy Executive Director, Mike manages all leases of Port-owned property
and supervises the long-term development and maintenance of
Port-owned land. Mike also manages the Charleston Marina Complex. He functions as the
liaison between marine terminal operators in the harbor and the
federal and state agencies involved in regulation and oversight of
maintenance dredging of the
deep-draft navigation channel and the shallow-draft Charleston
channel. Mike also maintains the various permits required for these
navigation projects. In addition, Mike works with the Director of
Finance and Administration to oversee the human resources and risk management
functions of the Port District.
Mike is Past President of the Board of Directors of the Oregon
Special Districts Association, which represents nearly 900 districts
(ports, fire districts, parks and recreation districts, etc.)
throughout the state. He also is a past member of the North Bend District 13
School Board.
Mike and his wife Pat have two grown children: Michele, a registered
nurse; and Mike, who works in construction in the local area.
