Current Career Position:
Owner, North Bend Oyster Company – Oyster Farmer.
Education Background/Highlights:
A graduate of North Bend High School. Served in the U.S. Army with
the rank of Sergeant from 1963-1965 in Mannheim, Germany.
Work History/Highlights:
Jerry has been self employed as a commercial fisherman or oyster
grower for the past 45 years, primarily in the Charleston area.
Civic & Professional Activities:
Jerry served on the Port’s Budget Committee for several years prior
to becoming a Port Commissioner. He has also served on the Pacific
Fisheries Management Council (PFMC). He currently represents the
Port Commission on the Charleston Marina Advisory Committee and the
Port’s Safety Committee.
Family Information:
Jerry and wife Brigitte have been married for 39 years and make
their home in Charleston. The Hampels have one daughter Janet, and
four grandchildren.
Special Interests:
Jerry enjoys hobby-ranching at his home and taking care of his
animals. He also enjoys hunting.
Comments:
As a Port Commissioner, Jerry is dedicated to ensuring that the Port
of Coos Bay creates jobs and maintains both its deep-draft harbor
and water quality.
