Current Career Position: President/CEO of Bay Area Hospital.   

Education Background/Highlights:  Medical Laboratory Technology at Oregon Institute of Technology, graduate study in Risk Management through the University of Chicago Medical School.  

Work History/Highlights:  Laboratory Manager at Keizer Memorial Hospital in North Bend from 1974 – 1986; Director of Special Services at Bay Area Hospital from 1986 – 1988; Vice President, Clinical and Support Services/Compliance Officer from 1988 – 2000; Senior Vice President, Chief Operating Officer from 2000 – 2001; and President/CEO of Bay Area Hospital from 2001 to present.   

Civic & Professional Activities:  Past Chair and current Board member of the Board of Education at Southwestern Oregon Community College; Board member of the South Coast Development Council; Past President of the North Bend Kiwanis Club; Past Board Chair of the Coos/Curry Chapter of the American Red Cross; Past Master of the North Bend Lodge of the AF& AM; Elder and Deacon of the North Bend Presbyterian Church.  Dan also serves as Secretary of the Port Commission and represents the Port on the Coos County Urban Renewal Agency – North Bay District Board.  

Family Information:  Dan is married to Donna, who is a Registered Nurse at Bay Area Hospital.  The Smiths live in North Bend and have four grown children.   

Special Interests:  Community service, collectible cars, carpentry and spending time with his grandchildren.
