Aaron D. Simons
Aaron
Simons serves as Marine Facilities Manager and Harbormaster for the
Oregon International Port of Coos Bay’s Charleston operations, which
includes the Charleston Marina & Launch Ramp, the Charleston Marina
RV Park and the Charleston Shipyard. He was promoted to the
position during January 2008, and is responsible for ongoing
operations at these facilities and supervision of the Port’s
maintenance and security personnel in Charleston. He also
coordinates related fiscal management responsibility with the Port’s
Director of Finance & Administration. In addition, Aaron and the
Charleston staff provide maintenance at the Port’s North Bay
Aquaculture Facility in the North Bay Marine Industrial Park on the
North Spit of lower Coos Bay.
Prior to Aaron’s designation as
facilities manager and harbormaster, he served as interim manager
starting in July 2007, following 15 years as Maintenance
Supervisor. Aaron joined the Port during March 1986 as an
entry-level maintenance worker and was promoted to a journeyman
maintenance position in July 1989. His work experience in
Charleston includes participation in a wide variety of projects,
from ongoing facilities maintenance, rebuilding of docks throughout
the marina and shipyard, continuing improvements to the RV park, and
major rehabilitation and improvement of the shipyard. Aaron holds
certifications as a crane and forklift operator, and in marine
operations. He also has participated in several on-the-job training
programs, as well as attending Southwestern Oregon Community College
for classes in management and operations supervision.
Aaron is married, and he and his
wife Yolanda live in North Bend. Aaron has two sons, Matthew and
Taran. He is active in a variety of groups in the Charleston area,
including the Charleston Merchant’s Association, the Charleston
Fisherman’s Memorial Committee and the Charleston Community
Enhancement Corporation. Aaron is a graduate of Bandon High School
and recently completed the Ford Institute Leadership Program
administered by the Ford Family Foundation of Roseburg. In his
leisure time, Aaron likes to fish, hunt, and camp and spend family
time exploring southern Oregon coast beaches.
